Based on Amazon's feature page as read on 30 October 2026. We did not test the web version.

Can you open Kindle Recaps in a web browser now?

Yes, according to Amazon. Its Kindle features page was updated on 2 July 2026 "to reflect the expansion of Recaps to web browser", and now tells readers to look for "View Recaps" on the series page in their Kindle Library "and web browser". Recaps still cover earlier books in a series, for US customers; the recap of the book you are reading is Story So Far, on Kindle devices and the Kindle iOS app.

What changed?

Amazon's page, first published on 2 April 2025, carries this line at the top: "This article was originally published on April 2, 2025 and recently updated on July 2, 2026 to reflect the expansion of Recaps to web browser." The instructions now read: "look for 'View Recaps' on the series page in your Kindle Library and web browser."

The page also still describes Recaps on Kindle devices, the Kindle iOS app and book series pages on Amazon.com.

What are Kindle Recaps?

Recaps "provides quick refreshers for books you've already read while preserving the joy of discovery, much like the 'Previously on...' segment before a show." They are for series readers: you finished book two a year ago, and book three is out. Recaps cover the earlier books, not the one you are reading.

How do Recaps differ from Story So Far?

FeatureCoversWhere
RecapsEarlier books in a series you have already readKindle devices, Kindle iOS app, Amazon.com series pages, web browser (US)
Story So FarThe current book, up to where you stoppedKindle devices and the Kindle iOS app (US)

Story So Far is described on the same page as part of Recaps, giving "spoiler-free refreshers up to where you've read". The full comparison, including Ask this Book and X-Ray, is in Story So Far vs Ask this Book vs X-Ray.

What has not changed?

  • US only, for "thousands of best-selling English-language eBooks", purchased or borrowed.
  • Kindle ebooks only. Recaps do not cover print or audiobook editions you own elsewhere.
  • Ask this Book is still described as iOS app first; see our October 2026 status note.

What if you read the series in print?

Kindle Recaps only know about Kindle books in your library. For a print series, a general chatbot can recap earlier books you have finished, with less risk than mid-book because you have read them; see Can ChatGPT recap a book without spoilers? For the book you are in the middle of, a page-locked companion such as Magic Bookmark covers supported titles in print, ebook and audio.
